Ysgol Bro Taf – A New Chapter in Education

As Pontypridd embarks on a major transformation in its educational landscape—consolidating smaller schools to form a new all-through “super school” spanning nursery to sixth form—our challenge was to craft a brand identity that reflects both progress and pride. We were tasked with developing a modern, stylish visual identity for Ysgol Bro Taf that not only appeals to a wide age range but also pays tribute to the area’s rich heritage and community roots.

Building a Brand with Purpose and Pride

The brand identity for Ysgol Bro Taf was designed to reflect both unity and individuality across the school’s broad age range. At the heart of the logo are three distinct dots, each representing one of the key stages:  Infants, secondary and Sixth Form. These dots are not just visual elements—they symbolise the journey of growth within the school, giving each group its own colour-coded identity to ensure that every student feels seen, valued, and empowered at every stage of their education.

Connecting the logo is a flowing line that represents the River Taf—an iconic and meaningful part of the local landscape. This subtle yet powerful nod to the surrounding area anchors the brand in its community, while also symbolising connection, continuity, and progress.

The overall look and feel of the brand was crafted to be modern, clean, and forward-thinking, reflecting the school’s vision for the future. Yet it remains grounded in tradition and local pride.

Collaboration played a key role in shaping the final identity. We worked closely with the school council, inviting students to contribute ideas and feedback throughout the process. Their input helped ensure that the brand would be something the entire school community—students and staff alike—could feel truly proud of.

The colour palette, chosen in partnership with the school, was selected not only for aesthetic appeal but also for consistency across uniforms and communications, creating a strong, unified presence for Ysgol Bro Taf as it steps into a bold new chapter.
